Frequently Asked Questions about payments:

1. If I owe the kitty money and I don't pay the money I owe within a week, and Vaughan has to email me to remind me, why does the debt double? Can I just pay the original debt and have the fine waived?

The system is designed to be largely self-administering in between the posting of new sessions on doodle. Keeping track of people's debts takes up a lot of time. It is not fair on Vaughan nor everyone else if someone doesn't pay up for whatever reason until Vaughan reminds them. The debt-doubling penalty is meant to act as an appropriately strong disincentive to not paying debts on time and wasting Vaughan's time. Debts are doubled rarely, but once a debt has been doubled, so far it has never been reversed. Hypothetically, if there is a good reason that you couldn't pay your debt promptly, and couldn't email Vaughan to explain the problem, the fine will be waived (the threshold for this is high), but not the original debt.

2. If I have owed the kitty money for more than a week, but pay it before Vaughan has sent me an email reminder to tell me that the debt has doubled, is my debt considered paid off - did I avoid the late payment fine?

That's right.

3. Should I email Vaughan to let him know that I've sent payment?

No. He will check for payments and see it, within a few days.
